INFORMATION

A spreadsheet is a grid that organizes data into columns and rows. Spreadsheets make it easy to display information, and people can insert formulas to work with the data.

Spreadsheet Vocabulary


1. Spreadsheet--a computer application program that arranges data into columns and rows,
usually used to work with numbers
2. Row--a side by side horizontal layout of boxes
3. Column--an up and down vertical layout of boxes
4. Cell--the block created when a column and a row meet each other
5. Cell Address--the location of a cell on a spreadsheet, (identified by the column letter,
followed by the number, example: A1, B4)
6. Data Entry Bar--the bar at the top of the spreadsheet used to enter data into the cell
that you have chosen
7. Grid--a blank set-up of rows and columns in a spreadsheet for data to be entered on
8. There are 3 types of data that can be entered into a spreadsheet--
VALUES (34,5), LABELS ( description), and FORMULAS ( =B5*B6).
9. Value--a number
10. Label--data entered as text, like a word or a letter
11. Formula--a mathematical statement, which begins with an equal sign (=) that tells the
computer to perform a calculation
